Food Tourism: Glasgow, Scotland.

Before sitting down to write about my most recent visit to Glasgow, I was contemplating what to jot down. Do I write about all my food encounters? Do I go into every single detail of what I ate and where? Should I take an overall view or I should just focus on the absolute highlight of this trip and indeed my previous trip too? So I’ve decided that I’m just going to focus on the highlight, because it’s really worth it; Riverhill West Nile (3 West Nile Street, Glasgow.)

I stumbled across Riverhill West Nile on my last visit to Glasgow back in March of this year. It was one of those chance encounters, where you’re desperately hungry, running around a foreign city with absolutely no idea where to go- an all too common occurrence for me. Thankfully I hit the jackpot. Riverhill West Nile is located in the heart of Glasgow and is small and cosy, with seating for about 20 or so. It appears to be popular among the locals meaning you’ll have to wait a while for a seat or you can avoid this by booking in advance. Thankfully, they’ve always been able to squeeze us in. They have a varied menu for breakfast and lunch plus a specials board, so while the menu isn’t overwhelmingly huge there is still plenty to choose from. Each time I have visited, I have been beyond impressed with the food on offer; the quality is exceptional with a focus on local produce. In a case of not being able to take the Melbournian out of the girl, I have to say that their coffee is to die for. None of this burnt coffee crap that seemingly abounds. Incidentally, they also happen to have a coffee shop around the corner from the restaurant.

So if you’re visiting Glasgow or if you’re a local, do add Riverhill West Nile to your list of places to try.
